Street Studios

2011-2012

Over the last ten years, Jeremy and his colleagues at Found Sound Nation have run street studios around the world. A street studio is essentially a simple recording and music production setup -- including a laptop, microphone, midi controllers, and easy-to-play instruments such as shakers and tambourines -- into a public place like a street or park. Then passersby are invited to contribute any sound they want: to play a beat on a bad, to record a traditional song, to freestyle a verse, to talk about a dream they had recently, etc. Then those songs are remixed in real time, and more passersby are encouraged to add their sounds, creating a sound-stew that is impossible to recreate, as it’s the record of the creative energies coalescing at a particular place and time.
